Everyone asks about money, what kind to bring. The currency of
choice is still the US Dollars. It is best to have $100 dated 2003 or
higher which will be exchanged for around 1800 shillings per dollar. Older
bills can be exchanged at some of the Kampala Forex Bureaus along Kampala
Avenue. The UK Pound in larger denomination is the next favored currency and after that the Euro. American Express Travellers Cheques can be exchanged and you have to prove that you purchased them and may receive a lesser rate or pay a fee for exchange. Credit Cards will be taken with Visa being favored over others. Some places take (rarely) Master Card but most charge a 5% handling fee which will be added to bill. ATM Cards: Barclay Bank accepts most Western ATM Debit Cards that are Visa based. Our Guesthouses will assist you in the safe keeping of your belonging including your cash by placing them into a safe. Check with the house manager who will gladly be of help. |
